History
The Deans Shelter had been established by the then Dean of Johannesburg to care for veterans of the 2nd world war who had serious difficulties in their efforts to rehabilitate and adjust to civilian life. Having served its purpose as Deans Shelter, Deansgate, as it is now known, became what it is to-day, a home caring for elderly residents. Accommodation is available to elderly people regardless of race, religious affiliation or gender. The historical link with the Anglican Church is preserved in the form of a chapel in which the services, open to all, are usually conducted by priests from the Parish of St Martin-in-the-Veld.
